NanoCurriculum

As the first university in Switzerland, the University of Basel offers an interdisciplinary NanoCurriculum for undergraduate students. From the beginning of the studies the Curriculum combines the disciplines physics, chemistry and biology. After three years of study, students can obtain a Bachelor of Science; after three additional years, a Master of Science in Nanoscale Science can be achieved. The study and evaluation is based on the requirements of the Bologna conference. Students have a great deal of flexibility to change to other fields in natural science within the University of Basel and also to other universities in Europe. The first students have now finalized their first year, and they are still very enthusiastic about their studies.

Quotes from Students:

Manuel: “The world of atoms always fascinated me. When I heard that in Basel a new Curriculum Nanoscale Science was established, it became clear for me what I wanted to study.”

Frank: “I couldn’t decide which area in Natural Sciences I like best – now I do all of them.”

Markus: “Nanoscale Science is an area where a lot will happen, that will develop dynamically and that offers a lot of chances for young people.”

Keren: “It is great that the University of Basel informs us right at the beginning of our studies about research projects. We get involved and confronted with research in an early stage.”

For the coming winter term, 47 students have registered for the NanoCurriculum.
